On Monday, June 6th, 4 Metro Milwaukee Nights Kiwanians took to the phones for Milwaukee Public television. As part of their annual membership and fund-raising drive, Channels 10/36 were showing a Dr Wayne Dyer program called “The Power of Intention.” During breaks in the program, a taped interview with Dr Dyer was played and the phone lines were open for any loyal viewers who wanted to sign up for membership in the Friends of 10/36.
Anne, Darren, Deborah and Paul were all on hand to answer phones with a smile (and enjoy the donated Kopps ice cream during breaks). In total, the four of us totaled $6,480 in donations for public TV. Anne left early holding a big lead with $1,270. However, the late surge of phone calls during the final stages of the program enabled the rest of us to catch up.
The final tally (even though it wasn’t a competition):
- Deborah – $2,655
- Darren – $1,345
- Anne – $1,270
- Paul – $1,210
There were also a number of “entertaining” hang-ups, prank calls, people just trying to be annoying and one person who called because she recognized one of us on TV.
